A hetünk és a sarkifény / Our week and the northern lights

Gondolkozom mi történt a héten, olyan nagyon sok minden nem, de ami volt azt elmesélem. Először is rohadt hideg van, reggel -8 fok volt, így hát fagy is, ami sok helyen napközben is megmarad, Bazsiéknak szívás volt, mert ők a kórházban tűzvédelmi gyakorlatoztak kinn az udvaron. A kórházba márcsak polár harisnyába, trikó + pulcsiba, sapkasálkesztyűben járok. A szomorú az, hogy a kórházban sincs sokkal melegebb, így a kórházi szerkóm alatt is ez a viseletem, kivéve nyílván a sapka meg a sál, a kesztyűt meg felváltja a gumikesztyű úgyis. Életemben először tegnap egy kicsit melegem is volt a kórházban. Meg is lepődtem. Kicsit otthonosabban mozgok az osztályon, igyekszem megérteni miről beszélnek, amiben kicsi sikerélmény volt is, ugyanis a turiban 2€-ért vett, de boltban 10€ értékű szótárammal nagyjából értettem a keddi videóelőadást. Szóval igyekszem haladni. Életemben először tegnap találkoztam rossz kajával a menzán. Curry szósszal leöntött göngyölt herring volt és legalább olyan rosszul nézett ki mint amilyen szaga volt, és a salátára is tonhalat kínáltak szóval nekem custom saláta volt az ebéd és elég jó is lett. A nap fénypontja a desszert volt (amit meglepően sose veszek), ami valami eperbefőttszerű valami volt keményre vert tejszínhabbal, szóval az valamelyest kiengesztelt a kaja után, isteni volt. Vannak megint hallgatok Ouluból, velük haverkodok, aranyosak de az előzőek barátságosabbak voltak, bár a lány ebéd után megkínált egy salmiakkis rágóval (fúj), szóval igyekeznek azért. Nem tudom, hogy írtam-e már, de múlt pénteken pedig egy finn ismerősünkkel voltunk Kokkolában, segített a hivatalos dolgok elintézésében, csak hát finn, úgyhogy vegig nagyon füleltünk, hogy megértsük mit mond, de alapvetően jól elkommunikáltunk hárman. A rádióban meg a TV-ben egyébként szépen beszélnek, az időjárást meg a rádióműsort értem nagyjából :D Ezen kívül nem sok minden történt, nehány pici dolgot vettünk a lakásba (alátét, gyertya, illatosító, bögre stb.) ma meg csináltunk egy nagy bevásárlást és először vettünk felvágotton és makkarán (igen, AZ a kolbász...) kívül egyéb húst, úgyhogy hétvégén főzni tervezek meg banánkenyeret sütni (az már most gondolkodik a sütőben). Ja, meg vettünk még egy télifűszer illatú szauna illatosítót, mert hát az kell.

Ami viszont full meglepi volt, hogy hazafelé, miközben ezt a posztot írtam egyszercsak felbukkant a sarkifény! Gyorsan meg is álltunk az útszélén vészvillogóval és hát mivel ez egy kultúrált ország, ezért a legelső autós aki elment mellettünk meg is állt megkérdezni, hogy minden frankó-e velünk. Aztán leálltunk egy kisebb földútra és onnan fényképeztünk (lásd lejjebb). Gyönyőrű szép volt, zöld volt, az alja sárga és lapszerűen hullámzott, az egész eget beterítette. Ehhez a történethez hozzátartozik az is, hogy 2 éve feliratkoztam egy finn aurora figyelő portálra, ami mindig egy krikszkrakszos, halandzsa emailt küld nekem amikor sarkifény várható, látszólag nulla információ tartalma van csak valami automatikus jelzés lehet. Ez jó idegesítő szokott lenni egy nagyobb geomágneses vihar során, ugyanis non-stop jelez a telefonom, hogy van valami üzenetem. Hát eljött az az idő, amikor ért is valamit a dolog, úgy látszik megbízható mert amíg bevásároltunk addig 3 emailt kaptam tőlük. Szóval kinn álltunk az útszélén egy jó fél órát aztán jöttünk haza, itt meg még látszódott a konyhaablakból. Hétvégére nincs semmi konkrét terv, de majd tájékoztatlak benneteket, ha történik valami izgalmas! Csinálni fogok egy finn kaját, makaronilaatikkot, majd megmutatom azt is és leírom a receptet.

I'm thinking about what happened during the week, and in fact nothing much has happened, however I'll tell you about those few events that did. First of all it's friggin' freezing. It was -8 Celsius this morning so obviously there's frost too and some of it doesn't even melt during the day which was a bummer for Balázs today, who was out in the hospital courtyard practicing fire drills with other employees. I now dress in fleece stockings, an undershirt, a sweater, hat mittens and a scarf while on my way to the hospital. The sad thing is this stays on even under my hospital clothes too since it isn't very much warmer inside. These guys are immune to the cold. The hat and scarf come off of course and the mittens are replaced by rubber gloves. I was surprised yesterday, because for the first time in my life I was even a hot warm in the hospital (I was wearing the undershirt, sweater, scrubs AND a lab coat). I'm feeling a little more at home on the ward, I'm trying to understand as much as I can and I even had a little sense of achievement because with the help of a dictionary (which I saw it at the department store for 10€ but purchased at a second hand store for 2€) I understood the main parts of a video lecture about atopic dermatitis. Also for the first time in my life I encountered unsavoury food at the canteen, it was herring rolls doused in curry sauce and it looked as bad as it smelled. Also they were serving tuna on the salad so I had to make a custom salad that actually turned out amazing. The best part of the day was probably dessert (which incredibly I never buy) which was a strawberry jelly kind of thing with really stiff whipped cream and it was soooo good, so that kind of made up for the main course. We have students from Oulu again, I've befriended them (kind of) but the previous ones were more sociable, however yesterday after lunch one of them offered me a salmiakki flavoured piece of gum (ewwww), so they're trying. I don't know if I've already posted about it, but last Friday we went to Kokkola with a Finnish friend, she helped us with official papers and stuff, but she's Finnish so we had to pay close attention to understand what she's saying but it was fun and we could communicate quite well with her. They actually speak very nicely on the radio and TV, so I understand most of the radio shows and the weather after the news :D Not much else has happened, we bought a couple of small things for the apartment (placemats, candles, mugs etc.) and we did a big round of grocery shopping, for the first time we bought other meat besides cold cuts and maker (yes, THAT sausage...). I plan to do some cooking on the weekend and I currently have a banana bread in the oven. Oh and we also bought a new 'winter spice' sauna scent, 'cause you know, you can never have too many sauna scents.

So we had a huge surprise today though on our way home! While I was writing this post in the car suddenly the Northern Lights popped up! We quickly stopped on the side of the road with our warning lights flashing and well, this is a civilized country, the first person to drive by us stopped to ask if everything was well. We then pulled onto a small dirt road where we could stop safely and started making photos (see below). It was gorgeous. It was green with yellow on the bottom and it was moving in waves. The whole sky was full with it. The other part of this story is that a couple years ago I signed up for automated emails from an aurora portal here in Finland. They always send me these incomprehensible nonsense emails and when you get a million of them on your phone during a larger geomagnetic storm it gets pretty annoying. Well, it looks like the time has come where it actually paid off, cause I got 3 emails while grocery shopping today warning me of the aurora appearing during the evening. Anyway, we spend about a half hour on the side of the road watching it and when we came home, you could still see it from the kitchen window. There's no specific plan for the weekend, but if anything interesting happens, I'll let you guys know! I am planning to make a Finnish dish, makaronilaatikko on the weekend, I'll make pics and write down the recipe too :)
