Today we finally got to see the new apartment, which is great! The kitchen is fully furnished and the big sauna mystery was also solved, I report: we have a sauna :) (Maybe it's time to buy a sauna stove sausage cooker?) :D

Na szóval, ahogy ma jöttem haza a kórházból kérdezősködtem, hogy milyen finn dolgok vannak, amelyek hagyományosak és esetleg szokatlanok is egy külföldi számára. Hallván az opciókat megvilágosodtam és hazaérve a képeim közt kezdtem el keresgélni, és hát aki keres az talál is. :)

Today on my way home from the hospital I was asking my commute friends about traditions, food or anything very Finnish that we foreigners may not know of. I also told them the that the stranger, the better. As soon as I heard what they had to say a lightbulb went on in my head and I started searching through my photos here at home and as we all know, he who seeks, finds... :)

1. Hörppy - Musta Omena
Ez talán a világ egyik legrandomabb dolga, amit valaha láttam. Ez nem más mint fekete (musta) almalé (omena). És átlátszatlan fekete. A pohárban is.

Hörppy is probably one of the most randomest things I have ever encountered. This is pretty much just black (musta) apple juice (omena). It's black and opaque. Even when you pour it in a glass.

2. Appelsiini-Cola
Ismét egy finn egyediség. A narancs-kóla izesítésű bármi. Ez itt egy 'official' ízesítés, mint ahogy nálunk a málnaszörp vagy a bodza. Gyakorlatilag bármit vehetsz narancs-kóla ízesítésben, főleg üdítőt és szerencsére az 'igen vonzó' neve mellé egy kevésbé vonzó narancsos-barna szín is társul. Abba meg már belegondolni sem merek, hogy hogy sikerült félrefordítani az appelsiinit narancsra és az omenát almára...belefájdul az agyam.

Another Finnish oddity is orange-coke flavoured anything. This here is an official flavour, like maple syrup or bacon in Canada. You can literally buy almost anything orange-coke flavoured, especially soft drinks and besides its delightful and creative name it has a not so delightful orange-brown colour to it. I won't even try to understand how appelsiini was translated into orange and apple into omena...it makes my brain hurt.

3. Lipsi jégrém / Lipsi popsicles
Egy rövid nemeszemmeg listán pár másik dologgal együtt szerepel ez a csoda, ami nem más, mint tömör fekete jégrém. Képzeljetek el egy jó adag kátrányt, amibe beledugva egy botot és lefagyasztva ezt kapod. Az íze leginkább buborékmentes agyoncukrozott kólához hasonlít és talán a legijesztőbb képessége, amellett, hogy a lecsöpögött cseppeket simán tintának lehetne használni, az az, hogy olyan színűre festi a nyelvedet, mintha a frissen aszfaltozott utat nyalogattad volna fél napig. Azt ne is kérdezd, hogy mi a van a finnekkel és a fekete dolgokkal...lásd később.

Along with a couple of other things on a short list this is probably one of the most disgusting things I've ever eaten. Basically it's a pitch black popsicle. And when I say PITCH black, I mean it. Imagine a small amount of tar frozen with a stick in it, cause that's the closest thing I can think of to compare it to. It tastes like extremely sweet, cold flat coke and its most terrifying feature, besides being able to use the melted drops as ink, is that it will discolour your tongue to look like you've been licking a freshly paved road for half a day. Don't even ask what's with the Finnish and their obsession with black stuff...there's more later.

4. Hukka Makkaraputki
Ez az egyik személyes kedvencem, mert annyira bizarr és annyira tükrözi a finn szaunakultúra széleskörűségét. Nem tudom hányotok ismerte meg elsőre hogy mi ez, de arra emlékszem, hogy nekem kellett egy pár perc, amíg minden verzió lejátszódott a fejemben és kiválasztódott a helyes megoldás. Szóval aki azt tippelte, hogy ez egy szaunakályhán használható kolbászsütő az veregesse hátba magát. Nem is tudom, hogy kell-e erről többet mondani, bár anno bennem felmerültek kérdések, hogy hogyan van idejük kolbászt sütni és enni, amikor eleve azzal vannak elfoglalva, hogy meztelenül ütik-vágják egymást nyírfaágakkal a szaunában.

This is one of my personal favourites, because it's so bizarre and it reflects how far Finnish sauna culture actually goes. I'm not sure how many of you recognize what this is or how it works, but I remember all kinds of ideas running through my head when I first saw one of these before the correct answer dawned on me. So, whoever guessed that it serves as a sauna stove sausage cooker, you can pat yourself on the back. I'm not sure anything else needs to be said about it, however I don't completely understand how they have time to cook and eat sausages naked in the sauna when they're busy slashing each other with birch branches to begin with. 

5. Rénszarvas hot-dog / Reindeer hot-dogs
Rénszarvashúst bárhol lehet venni. Ennyi.

You can buy reindeer meat practically anywhere. End of story.

6. Karhunlihaa: konzerv medvehús / canned bear meat
Az első benyomásom? miafasz. Medvehús önmagában is fura,, de konzervben... Nem tudom miért venne bárki ilyet.

My first reaction? What the actual fuck. I mean bear meat is strange to begin with, but having it canned? I have no idea why anyone would ever buy this.

7. Salmiakki
A salmiakkit talán a legjobban szalmiák vagy fekete cukor néven ismerik otthon, valamennyire hasonlít a bocskorszíjra. Sajnos az otthoniak nem teljesen fedik át azt, amit itt salmiakki néven adnak, mert többek között az még ehető is. Ez tulajdonképpen egy fekete színű, ánizsízű, ammónium-kloridos trutymó, amit régen köptetőként adtak és amiből manapság (mint a narancs-kólából is) mindent készítenek. Van a cukorka maga, gumicukor, Fisherman's friend cukorka, likőr, csoki, RÁGÓ (!?!), MÉZ, és TORTA is belőle. Szerintem mindegyik egyenlően elrettentő. Tipikus vagy utálod, vagy imádod típusú kaja. Természetesen fekete színű.

Salmiakki is basically black salty liquorice and you can buy it in Canada too, so some of you may have actually encountered the real stuff. It is a black coloured, anise flavoured sticky something mixed with ammonium chloride and was used as an expectorant back in the day. You can buy almost anything flavoured with salmiakki including the candy itself, gummies, Fisherman's friend mints, liquor, chocolate, GUM (?!?), HONEY and even CAKE is made with it. In my opinion they are all equally repugnant. It's typically a you love it or you hate it kind of food. It's black coloured of course.

8. Leipäjuusto - kenyérsajt / bread cheese
Amikor előszőr találkoztam ezzel a jósággal a salátámon ránéztem és többször feltettem magamban azt a kérdést, hogy ez most akkor kenyér vagy sajt vagy mi ez? Megkérdeztem Ullát, akinek az anyukája hagyományosan készítette el gyerekkorában, végülis csak egy tehenészet szükséges hozza. A leipäjuusto tulajdonképpen egy keményebb féle szivacsos jellegű sajt, amelyet colostrumból készítenek (újonnan borjazott tehén tejéből). A tejet hagyják megaludni és utána köralakú fatányérokra terítik. Hagyományosan tűz mellé teszik a sajtot, ami ettől szenes mintát kap, manapság már inkább sütik, vagy grillezik. Nagyon finom és sokféle tálalás létezik, legyen az édes vagy sós és hát ki gondolta volna... kávéban.

I first looked at this thing at a salad bar and thought to myself, what is that? Is it bread? Is it cheese? What is it??? Well I asked Ulla whose mother used to make it traditionally. All you need for it is a cow farm. So leipäjuusto is a firm type of squeaky cheese which is made out of the colostrum (milk from of a cow that has recently given birth to a calf). The milk is coagulated or left to curdle then placed on round wooden plates to set. After it has set it is traditionally placed near a fire (today they usually bake it or grill it) where it will develop the charred marks on it. It's actually very tasty and is served in many different ways, both salty and sweet, and surprise surprise...in coffee.

Első hét / First week

No niin...tehát jól eltűntem, ne haragudjatok. Elég hosszú volt ez a hét. 3 ápolónővel, Minnával, Ullával, Anna-Liisával megyunk reggel kocsival Kokkolába, mert ők útközben vannak ès fel tudnak venni, tehát tulajdonképpen carpooling van. Elég drága itt ez az utazgatás, de így is fele annyiba kerül, mintha bérletet vennék... Aranyosak nagyon, kettőjük elég jol beszél angolul, a harmadik semennyire (utalta gimiben az angolt). Állandóan állatokat mutogatnak nekem útközben (tegnap a 'kurki' azaz daru volt terítéken mivel elvonultak felettünk) meg mesélnek magukról. Valamelyik reggel finnül a mellkisebbítő műtét volt a téma. :D

Hát, a gyerekosztályon nem sok minden van, egész heten 3 gyerek volt, egy Henoch-Schönlein purpurás, egy DM1-es és egy potenciális felfázás meg 2 baba a PIC-en megfigyelésre, szóval nem szakadok meg a munkában, amitől még jobban fáj a hajnali 5.45-ös kelés ténye, bár olyankor még reggel tök jó fények vannak meg illatok, de sötét is van, így ma reggel majdnem dobtam egy hátast a sárba miközben próbáltam levágni az utat. Nem mondanám, hogy kifejezetten meleg van, jövőhéten gyanúsan mar télikabátos idő lesz, de még a mai 15 foknak mindenki nagyon örül. Biztos, vénasszonyok nyara van :'D

Tegnap volt egy össznépi átszervezéses meeting, amiből természetesen a térképeken es egyes szavakon kívül nem értettem semmit, de segítette a kedélyállapotomat, hogy szendvics meg kávébár (mi más) volt előtte, ráadásul a 3 oului ötödéves is ott volt, szóval lehetett szocializálódni. Egész nap velük voltam, ami javamra vált mert ebédkor lebeszéltek a számomra ismeretlen halpitéről, aminek a szaga az óvodai menzát idézte számomra, így maradt a saláta menü, ami meglepően sokféle  és tápertékügyileg kiegyensúlyozott volt. Apropó ezek a salátát teljeskiőrlésű vajas(bocs, margarinos)kenyérrel eszik...így hát én is. Nem csodálom hogy száz évig élnek... Közben beszélgettünk Magyarországról, az orvosképzés itteni különbségeiről, származásukról, itteni szokásokról, mindenféléről aztán délután amíg el nem kezdődött az egyetemi videó konferenciájuk, addig a meeting roomban tanultunk, ők gyerekkardit, én pedig a legnagyobb örömükre finn szavakat kérdeztem 10 percenként. Így a nap tipikusan így néz ki: megérkezés-kávé-ülővizit-kávé és reggeli-rendes vizit-kávé-ebéd kb. 11 órától-kávé-adminisztráció talán?, nekem tanulás-kávé-haza-kávé. Szóval naponta kishíján koffeinmérgezést kapott, de kezdem megszokni. A nyelvvel még hadilábon állok, egyelőre csak szavakat, ragokat és egyszerűbb mondatokat értek meg, de tanulom szorgalmasan. Jellemző, hogy nem nagyon erőltetik meg magukat angolul, viszont ha kérdezősködök, akkor szívesen válaszolnak meg segítenek. Eleve kicsit távolságtartók szerintem, de mostmár rendszeresen szórakoztatom őket hogy megszokjanak. Pont most kérdezősködtek a rezidensek, hogy hogy kerülök ide, meg hogy meséljek magamról.

Hétvégére valami erdőjárást tervezünk meg lehet elmegyünk Ylivieskába, a lakásba meg jövőhéttől lehet beköltözni (hó 1-jétől, ezért nem tettem még fel képeket). Ami meglepetés számunkra, hogy nem tudjuk, hogy lesz-e szauna mert a bérletiszerződésen rajta van, de neten meg nincs, szóval ez még majd kiderül. Ezen kívül otthon vagyunk, Bazsi a masik kórházban dolgozik, azt mondta, hogy hétvégén beszámol itt, úgyhogy nemsokára ő is jelentkezni fog. Hétvégén igyekszem csinalni egy csomó képet a környékről ha jó idő lesz! Na, most elmegyek kajálni, meg amúgy is itt valaki épp egy nyershalas valamit tervez felnyitni...

No niin...Sorry for disappearing for so long, the week has been pretty long. I carpool to the hospital in Kokkola with 3 nurses who live near by, Minna, Ulla and Anna-Liisa. It's still pretty expensive to pitch in for gas but it still costs half as much as buying a bus pass... They are very nice people, two of them speak English pretty well, the third one not so much (she said she hated English in high school). They talk about and show me animals usually during the drive (yesterday we talked about 'kurki' or cranes because they were flying over our heads), they also said they saw a moose on the side of the road a week ago, but for example one morning our topic in Finnish was breast reduction surgery.

Well, there's not many patients on the pediatrics ward, we had 3 altogether this week, one Henoch-Schönlein purpura, one diabetes patient and one potential UTI today plus two babies in the NICU who are technically here only for observation. So I can't exactly say I'm drowning in work which makes having to get up every morning at 5.45 even more painful. Well, at least the colors and smells are really nice in the morning. Unfortunately it's usually still dark so I almost landed on my back this morning after slipping in the mud while attempting to take a shortcut. I wouldn't say the weather is warm, in fact I think next week will be winter jacket weather but until then everyone is super happy about today's 'great' weather. It's 15 degrees Celsius...

Yesterday we had a hospital meeting which I needless to say did not understand, well, except for a couple words and the maps in the presentation. It helped a lot that before the meeting there was a sandwich and coffee (what else?) bar, plus I was hanging out with the 3 students from Oulu so I could socialize a little bit. I spent most of yesterday with them which was an advantage at lunch because they convinced me to not order the weird fish pie thing which smelled like the food used to in daycare :D I ended up eating a salad menu which was surprisingly diverse and nutritionally balanced. Oh, and the Finnish eat salad with whole grain bread and butter (khm, sorry... margarine), so I followed suit. I'm not surprised they live for a hundred years... During lunch we talked about Hungary, the differences in med school training, Finnish traditions and all kinds if stuff. After lunch (due to lack of patients) we moved to the meeting room where until their university video lecture we studied, they studied pediatric cardiology and I asked them Finnish words every 10 minutes to their greatest delight. So a typical day looks like this: arrive-coffee-doctors meeting-coffee and breakfast-rounds-coffee-lunch from 11 am-coffee-administration I guess? Studying for me-coffee-leave to go home-coffee. So technically I suffer a slight caffeine poisoning everyday, but I'm getting used to it. I'm still very unfamiliar with the language only understanding basic words and simple sentences but I'm trying and it seems like the results are rolling in slow and steady. I find that the Finnish aren't very keen on translating everything but they are very helpful if I ask any questions. They're not very talkative either, but I keep entertaining them and asking them stuff so they're getting used to me. I'm sitting in the break room right now (yes, drinking coffee) and the residents were just asking me where I come from and what I'm like. 

For the weekend we're planning a little bit of hiking (I wanna pick berries again) and maybe we'll visit the city of Ylivieska. Next week we move into the new apartment as you can only rent starting from the beginning of the month. We don't know yet if we will have a sauna in the apartment or not (for those who don't know, a sauna is a default thing in Finnish houses no matter how small or old the place is) because on our rent contract it says sauna included but on the internet it doesn't say if it includes a sauna or not. Anyway, it will be a surprise! I'll send pictures as soon as I can :) During our free time we've been at home mostly (it's not uncommon for us to nap during the afternoon...). Balázs is in a different hospital but I think he'll be posting during the weekend, so stay tuned! I'll try to make some pics of the town on the weekend if the weather permits! I'm gunna go to lunch now, plus someone is in the process of opening some raw fish or something here for lunch...

Első nap / First day

Na, elkezdődött a hét. A reggelem úgy telt, hogy félig beszélve, félig mutogatva kommunikáltam az ápolónővel aki jött értem reggel. A fő témánk az útszéli jávorszarvasok voltak... Aranyos volt, mindent körbemutatott és lepasszolt a gyerekosztályon. Beültem ülővizitre, ahol nem értettem semmit, bar mindenki elmondta, hogy milyen jó dolog az angoltudás...amúgy nagyjából mindenki beszél angolul. 3 masik hallgató van itt egy hétre Ouluból, ötödévesek. Ők segítettek megtalálni az öltözőt. Amig nincsenek suliban, addig az egyetem és a kórház egyutt videókonferencia során biztosítja, hogy részt tudjanak venni naponta az előadásokon (!) Szerencsés véletlen során amikor bemutatkoztam, hozzám szólt valaki magyarul. Mint kiderült van itt egy magyar aneszt rezidens, aki pont most csinálja a PIC gyakorlatát. Mondanom sem kell, vele meg egy masik rezidenssel pörögtem ma a PIC-en (ahogy látom itt sem könnyebb baba artériát szúrni senkinek). Ami kiderült érdekességként az az, hogy a babák nem kapnak nevet egészen a keresztelőjükig (6-8 hetes korig), addig az anyjuk vezetéknevét veszik fel és keresztnévként tyttö (lányt jelent) vagy poika (fiút jelent) szerepel. Érdekes még a megkülönböztetés, ugyanis mindenki  ugyanazt a kórházi kék rucit hordja, onnan tudni, hogy ki az orvos, hogy akin köpeny van, az nagy valószínűséggel az, kivéve ha sebész mert azok meg nem hordják a műtő miatt. A dr-t senki nem használja, amikor rákérdeztem fogalmuk sem volt, hogy miről beszélek, totál összezavarodva néztek. Azt is megkérdezik, hogy minden szakmának van-e külön megkülönböztetője :D 
A fel pácientúra svédül beszél csak (vagy valami hibrid dialektust a finn es a svéd között) amit még mindig jobban meg lehet érteni, mint a finnt :'D Ami a kórházat illeti, jól felszerelt, nem zsúfolt, tiszta és a kaja is jó. Amíg van nehány főétel opció, addig legalább 10 féle saláta. A pihenő szobákban és az 'ülővizit szobában' is melegszínű hangulat- és díszvilágítás van, nem plafon fényforrás és MINDENHOL van kávégép. A használata nem becsületkasszás, hanem egy csomag kávé a beugró havonta (a tejet meg a cukrot innentől kezdve nem tudom ki szerzi be...). Természetesen van mindenből mentes (laktózmentes, gluténmentes, cukormentes amitakarszmentes). Találkoztam az osztályvezetővel is, aki egy fiatal MZs jellegű fickó csak spanyol kivitelben. 3-kor indulok haza, már tűkön ülök, ugyanis a 6 db betegünk utàn gyakorlatilag semmi sem történt, azóta kávézók és szídom magam, hogy nem hoztam tanulnivalót...

So, my week has begun. Each morning I carpool with a nurse from the hospital, she came to pick me up and we communicated as much as possible verbally, but probably more by hand gestures. Our main topic was the moose that usually stand on the side of the road. She was really nice, I had no idea where the pediatrics department was so she kinda just parked me there and told me to meet her at 3. I sat down for the morning meeting where needless to say I didn't understand anything, however everyone assured me it's great that I speak English (well thanks...). Luckily everyone speaks English more or less. There are 3 other med students here for the week from Oulu, they're fifth year. While they spend their practice week here the university and the hospital provides them the opportunity of having a video conference so they don't miss out on lectures, which is amazing. While I was introducing myself surprisingly someone greeted me in Hungarian, turns out by lucky coincidence there's a Hungarian anesthesiology resident here for her NICU rotation. Needless to say her and another resident 'babysat' me all day. I learned in the NICU that newborns here aren't given a name until they are christened (6-8 weeks after birth) and until then they use their mothers maiden name as a last name and tyttö (meaning 'girl') or poika (meaning 'boy') as a first name. For example my child would be named 'Siki poika' for the first few weeks of his life. Another interesting thing is that the only way to distinguish a doctor here is if they have a lab coat on (unless they're a surgeon) because everyone wears the same blue hospital scrubs. No one uses the MD (or Dr.) in front of their name here, when I asked they kinda just looked at me like I'm from outer space. 
Half of the patients speak Swedish, or a random hybrid of Swedish and Finnish which is still easier to understand than Finnish :'D the hospital itself is clean and not crowded and the food isn't bad either. While you can choose from a few types of main course there's at least 10 types of salad. There's warm decor lighting in each of the break rooms and meeting rooms and there are coffee machines EVERYWHERE. You don't have to pay for coffee but to use the machine you have to bring one pack of coffee a month (I honestly don't know where the milk and sugar come from...). They also have all kinds of -free products (lactose-free, gluten-free, sugar-free etc.). I also met the head of department, he's a young, Latino guy which was a surprise. I'm planning to go home at 3 pm, I can't wait because since we saw our 6 patients today nothing else has happened and I've been drinking coffee non-stop and scolding myself since for not bringing anything to study...

Megérkeztünk! / We've arrived!

Na megérkeztünk a kánikulából az esőbe, de nem baj, mert végre nem érzem úgy, hogy legszívesebben levedleném a bőrömet is. A mai napunk elég mozgalmas volt, kávézással, csomagolással telt nagyrészt. Természetesen jó sokat stresszeltem a csomagok méretén, alakján és súlyán, ami teljesen feleslegesnek bizonyult (mint mindig), mert senkit nem érdekelt, hogy hány táskánk van vagy milyen formájúak, a becsekkolós bőrönd (aminek a formája legkevésbé sem egy bőröndre hasonlít mintsem egy óriás zsákra) meg 19.9 kilóra sikerült, szóval nagyon eltaláltuk a dolgot. A reptéren annyi érdekesség történt még, hogy amíg szálltunk fel, addig leszállt egy mentőhelikopter meg kijött egy rohamkocsi, de nem sikerült kiderítenünk, hogy mi volt az action oka a parkolóban. A repülés maga eseménytelenül telt, Balázs filmezett és meg jó szokásomnak híven azonnal bevágtam a szunyát. A repülőről néztük meg a naplementét is. Telt-múlt az idő, mire bemondták, hogy na jó akkor szálljunk le. Ránéztem az órámra, nem egészen negyed nyolc volt, mondom hova szállunk már le? Aztan kiderült, hogy 27 perccel hamarabb érkezünk. Én azért ezen meglepődtem, mert sosem volt még ilyen, pedig repkedek már egy ideje, és természetesen, amikor pont arra a 27 percre van szükséged, hogy megvárjon a csatlakozó járatod, akkor tutira otthagy (így töltöttem el közel 2 napot a müncheni reptéren egyszer...) :D 
A reptérről a szar idő ellenére hazaértünk viszonylag hamar. Belépve a házba a jó 'Finnországban vagyunk' illat köszöntött meg a macska, aki valahogy öregkorára egészen kinövi a mizantrópiáját és kivételesen nem akarta letépni az arcunkat. Szóval jóság van meg lassan alvás. Holnap jelentkezünk az új helyről képekkel! Jóéjszakát!

We've arrived from the heat wave in Hungary to the rain here in Finland, but I don't mind because I finally don't have to feel like taking off my skin. Our day was quite busy, most of it was spent with drinking coffee and packing. Of course I was completely stressed about the size, shape and weight of our luggage, which turned out to be completely unnecessary as no one really cared about how many or how big our carry-ons are and the one bag we checked in turned out to be 19.9 kilograms so we were spot on with our packing technique. The only interesting thing that happened at the airport was that while we were waiting on the tarmac a rescue helicopter and an ambulance arrived in one of the parking lots, but we didn't find out what happened eventually. The flight was uneventful, Balázs watched a movie and I fell asleep as I usually do. We watched the sunset from the plane. Time flew by pretty fast until they announced that we would be landing shortly. I checked my watch and thought 'what? already?' but as it turned out we landed 27 minutes ahead of arrival time, which has never happened to me. Of course when you desperately need those 27 minutes to make it to your connecting flight you most definitely don't have them and eventually miss the plane (and this is how I spent almost 2 days in Munich Airport...) :D
We drove home pretty fast despite of the bad weather. Walking into the house we were greeted with our 'now we're in Finland' scent and the cat, who despite his old age is somehow growing out of his misanthropy and didn't want to take our faces of like usual. Anyway, so all is well and I'm ready for bed. These 2 days have been long and busy with the final exam, goodbye parties and packing. We'll be posting from our new home tomorrow! A kezdet / The beginning

Sziasztok! Amint mondtuk már, a gyors és széleskörű tájékoztatás érdekében elindítottuk ezt a blogot, amin az összes finnországi utazásunk és bolondozásunk publikálva lesz legnagyobb örömötökre. Jó szórakozást kívánunk! :)

Kezdésnek itt van pár finn közmondás:
-Konstit on monet, sanoi akka kun kissalla pöytiä pyyhki. (Többféle megoldás van, mondta a banya miközben a macskával letörölte az asztalt)
-Joka kuuseen kurkottaa, se katajaan kapsahtaa. (Aki a fenyőt akarja elérni az a a borókabokorban landol)
-Kuin perseeseen ammuttu karhu. (Olyan rossz kedvű 'mint egy seggbelőtt medve')
-Juosta pää kolmantena jalkana. (Úgy siet, hogy futva a fejét harmadik lábnak használja)
-Kadota kuin pieru Saharaan. (Eltűnt, mint fing a Szaharában)
-Ei tippa tapa eikä ämpäriin huku. (Egy csepp nem öl meg, egy vödörbe meg nem lehet belefulladni = 'egy sör nem sör')

Hi everyone! We have decided to start a blog to update everyone who is interested about our travels and life in Finland. Enjoy! :)

For starters, here are a few Finnish proverbs:
-Konstit on monet, sanoi akka kun kissalla pöytiä pyyhki. (Many solutions exist said the hag while she wiped the table with the cat)
-Joka kuuseen kurkottaa, se katajaan kapsahtaa. (He who reaches for the pine shall fall into the juniper bush)
-Kuin perseeseen ammuttu karhu. (To feel like a bear that was shot in the ass = bad mood)
-Juosta pää kolmantena jalkana. (To be in such a rush that you use your head as a third leg)
-Kadota kuin pieru Saharaan. (Disappeared like a fart in the Sahara)
-Ei tippa tapa eikä ämpäriin huku. (A drop won't kill you and you can't drown in a bucket)
