Hétvégén szőtt tervek / Results of weekend planning

Heipä! Eltelt a hétvége is és elég mozgalmas is volt. Főztem ugyan, de csak rakott krumplit és bolognai szószt, mondjuk abból egy hadseregre valót, úgyhogy le is fagyasztottam. Tegnap voltunk Kalajokiban ismerősöknél, nagyon jó kis nap volt jó társasággal, beszélgettünk sokat és hát megszületett egy igen érdekes és izgalmas ötlet. Menjünk el a Fjällräven Classicra! Ugyan nem idén, mert elég sok esemény és tennivaló lesz, de a 2017-es mostmár tervben van, jövő ilyenkor fogunk tudni regisztrálni rá.

Aki nem ismeri a versenyt, ez egy 110 km-es svéd lapföldi 3 napos teljesítménytúra augusztusban, kb. 3000 méteres szintkülönbséggel. Nikkalouktából indul és Abiskoban végződik. Vannak checkpointok, de a túra nagy része alatt nincs térerő és a terep sem teszi lehetővé a járművel való közlekedést. Inni a patakokból lehet és minden (tájékozódás, főzés, sátorozás, zord időjárási viszonyok esetében történő haladás/megállás, elsősegély stb.) saját felelőségre történik (ezt jelzi a versenyleírás következő mondata is: Generally there will be no organized search for people who have not reached the finish). A checkpointoknál ugyan lesz orvos és/vagy nővér, de limitált felszereléssel kell számolni ott is, kivételesen súlyos esetekben pedig a mentőhelikopter jön érted ha hozzáférhető helyen vagy és megfelelők az időjárási viszonyok a biztonságos fel- és leszálláshoz (ez körülbelül 160 és 540 Euróba kerül/fő). Ha úgy döntesz, hogy feladod a túrát... hát akkor szívás mert nem nagyon van erre lehetőség, ugyanis akkor is el kell sétálni vagy a kezdő- vagy a végponthoz. Útközben természetesen a checkpointoknál lehet venni rénszarvas burgert (ez az ún. LapDånalds).

Az útvonal, amely összesen 110 kilométer a Kiruna közeli Nikkalouktából indul, elhalad a sarkkörtől éjszakra a Skandináv Hegység Kebnekaise (Svédország legmagasabb pontja 2097 m) és Tuolpagorni (1662 m) csúcsai mellett, majd egy völgyön keresztül a singi-i táborhoz
(Singistugorna) vezet.

Innen északfele fordul az út (a Kungsleden túraútvonal részeként) Sälkastugorna fele, útközben egy hídról állítólag látni a Drakryggen (Sárkányháta) hegyet, amelynek gerince különösen éles lefutású. Sälka felé az út cikk-cakkos de viszonylag sík és sok hegyi patak szeli át ezt a vidéket. A sälkai táborban fatüzelésű szauna található, amelyhez a fát te magad vágod helyszínen! Sälkától 8 kilométerre található a Tjäktja átjáró, amely a Tjäktjai táborhoz közel vezet és ahol gyönyörű a kilátás, ám itt különösen oda kell figyelni, ugyanis kezdvezőtlen időjárási viszonyok esetén kevés alkalmas hely található a sátor felállításához valamint ez a túra legnehezebb és legmagasabb terepe.

Ezután könnyebb terep vezet Alesjaure felé és már a távolból láthatók a tábor épületei és van szauna itt is. A továbbiakban az Alesjaure-tó baloldalán javasolt maradni a későbbi erős áramlatok miatt, az út a tóvidéken keresztül Kieron felé halad és mivel előreláthatólag legalább 6 kilométerig nem lelhető fel állandó ivóvíz forrás, így tanácsolják a kulacsok feltöltését. Patakmedrek ugyan vannak, de nem garantált, hogy folyik bennük víz az év minden szakában. A következő checkpoint a Siellajåkka folyón áthaladó híd után található, majd a checkpoint után 1 kilométerre a túravonal átlépi az Abisko Nemzeti Park déli határát. A nemzeti parkban csak kijelölt táborhelyeken lehet sátrazni az abiskojaurei épületek közelében. A tó homokos partja lehetővé teszi a fürdést is. Az Abiskojåkka folyót követve az ember eléri
végül a Kungsleden útvonal végét jelölő fakaput és
onnan a Fjällräven Classic túra végső pontját is Abisko-
ban, a sarkkörtől 200 kilométerre északra. Itt termé-
szetesen megkapod a verseny teljesítésével együttjáró
földi javakat és egy zuhanyzás után irány a szauna.

Kirunáról és környékéről még annyit, hogy 17 kilométerre innen,Jukkasjärviben épül minden évben 1990 óta az Icehotel. A Torne folyóból vésett 9000 tonna jégből és háromszor ennyi hóból építik meg a 6000 négyzetméteres szálloda minden egyes részét az adott év decemberében. A szállodában található kápolna, étterem és Absolut bár valamint a szállodaszobák, melyek közül mindegyik teljesen egyedi. Az állandó -5 fok miatt az ottalvó vendégek speckó hálózsákot és rénszarvas bőröket kapnak a jégből készült ágyakra a hideg ellen. Természetesen van szauna is... Az épület megtervezéséért és megépítéséért minden évben a zsűri által kiválasztott 50 pályázó művész felelős és minden évben más témájú. Gyengébbek kedvéért fenntartanak egy fűtött
szállodaépületet is ahol a vizesblokkok is megtalálhatók.

És mibe kerül mindez? Főszezonban (dec-márc) 350-900 €/2 fő között mozog az ár szobától függően és áprilisban pedig 270-530€/2 fő között szóbától függően. Jelenleg a 26. Icehotelben az idei időpontok mindegyike foglalt.

Szerencsére van alternatíva! Itt Lappföldön, 28 kilométerre a svéd határtól a Botteni-öböl partján fekszik egy Kemi nevű város. Az itteni LumiLinnán (hóvár) kívül Kemi hírességei közé tartozik a Sonata Arctica nevű power metál banda (tessék metálhead ismerősök), egy drágakő múzeum amely otthont ad számos királyi ékszer replikának valamint Európa egyetlen krómbányája. Mellesleg Székesfehérvár testvérvárosa LOL.

Na, itt épül 1996 óta a LumiLinna nevű hókastély, amely minden évben más-más témát dolgoz fel (volt már sport, szörnyek, mesék, járművek, stb.). A hóvár alapterülete évente változik és elterült már 13000, de 20000 négyzetméteren is, valamint rendelkezett már 20 méteres tornyokkal és 3 emelettel is. Megtalálható benne egy jégből és hóból épült Snowétterem, Snowkápolna, néhány helyi művész által tervezett Snowszállodaszoba és évente mindig más ujdonság (2 éve jégcsúszda volt benn a kastélyban). Kívülről nem tűnik nagy számnak, de ez ne tévesszen meg senkit! Esténként és belül nappal is szépen ki van világítva és a falak minden négyzet centimétere jégből faragott a kilátás pedig az öbölre néz. Egy éjszakára körülbelül 150-200 €/2 fő az ár, de itt is elég limitáltak a helyek.

Heipä! So the weekend has passed and it has been a quite eventful one too! I did cook but eventually didn't make makaronilaattiko, but instead a potato casserole and enough bolognese sauce to feed an army so I had to freeze most of it. We visited some friends in Kalajoki yesterday, it was a good day with good people. We talked for hours on end and came home with an interesting and exciting idea. Let's go do the Fjällräven Classic! Well, not this year with so much happening throughout the next 12 months, but we are planning to sign up for the 2017 race for which we can register for at this time next year.

For those unfamiliar with this event let me explain. This is a 110 km long, 3 day performance tour in Lapland Sweden in August with an approximate 3000 meter elevation difference. It starts in Nikkaloukta and ends in Abisko. There are checkpoints along the way, however there is no cellular signal throughout most of the trek and it is inaccessible by vehicle. You can drink from the creeks and rivers and everything is done at own risk (navigation, cooking, camping, choices to proceed in bad weather, first aid etc). This is also reflected by the following sentence I found in the trek description:  Generally there will be no organized search for people who have not reached the finish). There will be doctors and/or nurses available at the checkpoints, however they will have limited resources so in cases of severe injury or illness a helicopter can be called and will retrieve you if you are on helicopter accessible terrain and if weather conditions permit (this costs anywhere between 240 and 800 Canadian Dollars per person). If you decide to abandon the hike...well too bad, cause you have to hike back to either the starting point or finish line. At the checkpoints you can buy reindeer burgers of course (a.k.a. LapDånald's).

The trail which is 110 km long starts from Nikkaloukta near Kiruna Sweden and runs north of the Arctic Circle through the Scandinavian Mountains near Kebnekaise (Sweden's highest point 2097 m) and Tuolpagorni (1662 m) peaks. From there it leads to the cabins in Singi (Singistugorna) through a valley.

From here the trail turns north (as part of the Kungsleden hiking trail) to Sälkastugorna. On the way you can see the Drakryggen (Drangon's back) Mountain from a bridge, which's ridge is particularly narrow. The hike to Sälka is a zigzag but pretty level and is criss-crossed by many creeks. There is a wood burning sauna at the Sälka cabins for which you have to cut the wood yourself on location! 8 kilometres from Sälka is the Tjäktja Pass which provides a beautiful view and also leads to the cabins of Tjäktja however navigating this part of the tour is tricky as there is no place to camp if weather turns bad. It is also the steepest and highest part of the trek.

After this, easier terrain leads you to Alesjaure where the cabins are visible from farther away during your approach. There is also a sauna here too. You are advised to continue on the left bank of Lake Alesjaure due to strong currents on the other side. The trail leads
through fjords to Kieron and because there is no foreseeable source of fresh water for the next 6 kilometres it is advised you fill your flask. There are stream beds however it is not guaranteed that water is flowing in them all year round. The next checkpoint can be found shortly after the bridge crossing the Siellajåkka river and 1 km past the checkpoint the tour crosses the southern border of the Abisko National Park. You can only camp in specific parts of the national park near the Abiskojaure cabins. The lake's sandy beach also allows for swimming. If you follow the Abiskojåkka river you will eventually reach a wooden
gate indicating the northern end of the
Kungsleden trail, and from here the end of the Fjäll-
räven Classic in Abisko, 200 km north of the Arctic
Circle. Here you receive all the world goods that go
along with completing the tour and after a shower you
can use the sauna. You receive a different colour badge
depending on how many times you've completed the race.

Another interesting fact about Kiruna is that not far from here, 17 km away in Jukkasjärvi is where they have been building the Icehotel since the year 1990. The 64,500 square foot hotel is built every december from the 9000 tonnes of ice and 27000 tonnes of snow retrieved from the frozen Torne River. Every part of the hotel consists of ice or snow including an Absolute icebar, restaurant, chapel and hotel rooms (cold rooms) of which each is unique. Because of the constant -5 degree temperature guests are given special polar sleeping bags and reindeer hides to cover the ice beds. Naturally there is also a sauna available... A panel of
judges chooses 50 artists who are responsible for
designing and building the Icehotel each year with a
different theme. There are also heated accommodations (warm rooms) available in a separate building beside the Icehotel for the weaklings and the showers and bathrooms can also be found here.

So what does all this cost? In high season (Dec.-Mar.) you're looking at anything from 500-1300 CAD for 2 people depending on the room you choose and 400-800 CAD for 2 people in low season (Apr.) also depending on the room you choose. Currently there are no available rooms throughout the season in this year's 26th Icehotel. Everything is booked.

Luckily there is an alternative! In the Bothnian Gulf of the Finnish Lapland there is a small city approximately 28 kilometres from the Swedish border called Kemi. Besides the LumiLinna Snowcastle Kemi is also known for being the hometown of the power metal band Sonata Arctica (here you go metalhead friends), being home to a gem museum housing replicas of many royal jewels and also for being the only city in Europe to mine Chromium. It is also the sister city of Hungarian city Székesfehérvár LOL.

So since 1996 Kemi has been building the LumiLinna Snowcastle which applies a new theme each year (there has been sports, monsters, fairytales, transportation etc). The area of the Snowcastle varies each year and has been as big as 215,000 square feet, it has had towers taller than 65 feet and has consisted of three floors. It contains a restaurant, a chapel and uniquely decorated hotel rooms designed by local artists as well as something new each year (2 years ago they had an ice slide within the castle). It doesn't look too special from the outside, but don't let that fool you! It is beautifully lit during the evening on the outside and during the day on the inside and all of the walls are thoroughly decorated with ice and snow carvings. The whole castle faces toward the Gulf of Bothnia. A double room costs approximately 200-400 CAD a night, but accommodation is very limited already here too.
